Links to other Chinese Shar-Pei Sites

The sites listed in the links that follow are sites that may be of interest to Chinese Shar-Pei enthusiasts. The inclusion on this page of websites belonging to other breeders of Chinese Shar-Pei is not an endorsement of individual kennels but a courtesy to fellow breeders.

Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America (CSPCA)- The national parent club that promotes the Chinese Shar-Pei in the U.S.A. The CSPCA website contains useful information that includes the AKC recognized breed standard, a listing of club officers and how to get in touch with them, a Breeders Directory, and more. At Tim-Be Shar-Pei we require everyone who purchases one of our puppies to hold active memberships in the CSPCA, and we suggest that you seriously consider a membership even before you find your first puppy.

American Kennel Club (AKC) - The AKC is the primary registry of purebred dogs in the United States and maintains the stud books of more than 140 breeds. It entered the Chinese Shar-Pei into its registry in 1992. The organization sanctions most of the dog shows held in the U.S.A. and offers many educational and research programs for the betterment of purebred dogs.

National Animal Poison Control Center (NAPCC) - A branch of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), this site can assist any pet owner with questions about possible poisoning should a dog consume something of a questionable nature.

Cyber-Pet - Looking for a dog or cat? Need some pet supplies? Looking for a breeder near you? This site will help you out.

Health Issues

Amyloidosis - Many Chinese Shar-Pei suffer from a genetically inherited disease known as amyloidosis which affects a dog's kidneys or liver or both. The disease usually results in death at an early age (2-5 years). There are treatments available.

Familial Shar-Pei Fever - Sudden fevers of unknown origin have been relatively common in Chinese Shar-Pei, often connected to Swollen Hock Syndrome and sometimes a precursor to Amyloidosis.

Swollen Hock Syndrome - Chinese Shar-Pei may suffer from swollen hocks accompanied by a sudden fever. The hocks swell and the dog is noticably uncomfortable and unsteady while standing.
